I first saw this plush beauty on the cover of Eighty6 Blvd, one of the magazines I write for. The moment I saw her I just knew I had to get her on the site. I was so happy when she agreed to be Model of the Month.
If there is one thing I celebrate it is diversity in the entertainment industry, especially the field of modeling. This Virginia based BBW goddess embodies the beauty of diversity and if you’ve never met her, I’m happy to introduce you to Bella Raye.
Sapphire: First off congratulations, you’re having a great February. Already you’ve had two magazines featuring you on the cover released. How did you manage to pull that off, dropping two cover releases at once?
Bella Raye: Honestly I wasn’t expecting that at all… I had no idea I was on the cover until I actually saw the magazine. I was just looking to be featured.
Sapphire: How long have you been in the modeling industry, what encouraged you to get started?
Bella Raye: Believe it or not, one year as of February this year.
Sapphire: Have you found any barriers in your modeling as plus sized or have you found the industry to be open and accommodating?
Bella Raye: So far it’s open and accommodating more and more people, brands, magazines, clothing lines, and photography are starting to showcase and cater to plus size.
Sapphire: You appear to have a personal photographer, Photos by Phelps, whom you seem to work beautifully with. Do you find it easier to work steadily with a particular photographer versus shooting with many different photogs? What would you consider the pros and cons of working steadily with one photographer?
Bella Raye: It’s good to have a photographer you’ve grown with, whose familiar with you and who you’re familiar with technique wise and who you know can deliver. Photo by Phelps has all of that and he has been my go to from start to finish.
Sapphire: How do you balance motherhood with your blossoming career as a model?
Bella Raye: When is time to be a mother, I’m a mother, when it’s time to model, I model, when it’s time for me to be a full-time employee, I’m a full-time employee. I work things out according to my schedule and time where I’m available and able to do so.
Sapphire: You’re definitely what they call plus size but your shape is beautiful. How do you keep your body so tight and shapely? Do you have a specific workout regimen?
Bella Raye: My shape is hereditary actually. I have the same exact shape as my mother when she was my age. But I do dabble in the gym at least 3 times a week.
Sapphire: Besides modeling, are there any other talents you’ve been blessed with?
Bella Raye: I’m my own MUA. I can also do hair and I’m very crafty good with my hands as they say.
Sapphire: We have to know, are you single or taken? If single, what attracts you to a man? If taken, how did he win your heart?
Bella Raye: I’m single at the moment. I just recently got out of a 13 year relationship with my kids father. I’m not looking for anything but I see potential out there. I’m just not ready for anything at the moment.
Sapphire: What’s your fashion style? Are you more of a girly girl or tomboy? Has that changed over time or have you always been the same.
Bella Raye: I’m a girly girl when it comes to fashion. Believe it or not I was a tomboy in school from like 7th/8th grade to 9th. It went straight to all girly in High School. I was dressed up for school in High School like I was going to a corporate office.
