I love finding new talent for the site. I’ve been watching Traci develop as a model for about 2 years now and I am constantly amazed by the variety of looks she displays. Her versatility is one of her best features. This model/entrepreneur is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Sapphire: How long have you been modeling? What made you decide to get in the industry.
Traci: I have been modeling off and on for about 15 years. Believe it or not my intentions were to act and dance, but everyone kept saying I need to get my face out there. I attended Barbizon School of Modeling and began getting modeling jobs through Barbizon. I started getting asked to participate in fashion shows in the DMV area. Soon I was looked at as a model. Don’t get me wrong, I cherish every moment. I thank you as well for noticing my work.
Sapphire: How would you describe your modeling? Do you see yourself as an urban model? A fashion model?
Traci: My modeling is both urban and fashion. I love the realness of urban modeling. Every culture and generation can relate. As far as fashion modeling, fashion is my life! I wanted to go to college to be a fashion merchandiser and a stylist. However, the year I arrived at Morgan, the fashion program was taken out. I studied Business Administration and graduated with a BS Degree.
Sapphire: Runway or Photo shoots? Which are your favorite?
Traci: love both runway and photo shoots for different reasons. Runway, I connect with the audience and I just get a big rush from being on that catwalk! Photo shoots, I get to be creative and tell a story through art. Pictures last forever. However, when you get off the runway it’s done. I try to own them both.
Sapphire: You have such a diverse look, how do you come up with your themes and shoot ideas?
Traci: I come up with my ideas from everywhere. I can be driving and get an idea. I get some from movies old and present, music to just walking in the supermarket or washing clothes.
Sapphire: Do you work with a team You always seem to have the perfect costumes, hair and makeup?
Who styles you?
Traci: . No I don’t have a team. I wish I did! My costumes, hair, and makeup.. all me. I will admit, sometimes my mother does my makeup. She should have been a makeup artist. LOL!
Sapphire: What is your ultimate goal with your modeling?
Traci: My goal with modeling is to get rid of stereotype and discrimination.
Sapphire: What advice would you give to a model just getting started?
Traci: To models just starting, modeling is not as easy as it may appear to be. Modeling is a talent, just like singing. Modeling has to be your passion, not just because someone said you’re pretty and tall.. you should be a model. Nope, does work that way. Modeling takes dedication, perseverance and determination. You will loose friends, you may not hear from family. However, if it is your dream, don’t let anyone or anything stand in your way. Put your tough skin on, get your game face ready, and conquer!
Sapphire: Is modeling your only talent? Care to share your other interests and hobbies?
Traci: My other interests are dancing, singing and acting. All in which I have been trained in starting in Stamford, Conn to Baltimore at Peabody Conservatory. I also enjoy writing and working with children. Which I am an owner of a daycare.. Loving Arms Family Daycare. I have been in business for 10 years now. My mother helps me run my business as well. Yes. I have an amazing mom!
Sapphire: What was your proudest moment as a model?
Traci: My proudest moment as a model was getting my first paid job through Barbizon. I was a mannequin model.
Sapphire: Where can people find more of you?
